The Ottawa Marathon
posted 3 weeks agoWell, its mid. Feb. and what can I say I have kind of calmed down on the running as the days were shortened and it was fairly miserable to go for a run by the time I got home from work these past months. I have still been trying to get out for at least one decent run a week which I have been doing fairly consistently if I haven’t been snowboarding. Anyways yesterday I got out for a good 10 mile run which I haven’t done in a while. It was much slower than I could have done the middle of November but I still had a ton of energy when I was finished. It was great! Also the reason for a bit slower was that I got my dad our for it as well. He is a casual runner so usually nothing over 6 miles. This 10 mile run was actually the furthest he has ever run in his life. He’s in his early 50’s too! I’m so proud of him!
Anyways I have registered for the Ottawa Marathon which is May 30th. Its over 3 months away and I am already overly excited!! Hopefully I can beat my previous time in Seattle. I am know I CAN!
I’m also considering doing the P2A (Paris to Ancaster, a 60km) bike race mid. April. Gotta see how my cycling training works out. Should I do it again?
A video commemorating Terry Fox’s cross Canada run to raise funds for cancer research using Stan Rogers’ song Turnaround.
I am currently reading a biography on Terry Fox and this video is great commentary on this live, goal and achievements! Such an inspiration person.

Some Seattle Marathon pix of me running. My time was 3h53 which was not my goal pace, but apparently still respectable I am kept being told as I trained for only 2 months and this was my first marathon. Thanks to my coach Peter Glassford for all his help and guidance through the process. Already planning the next marathon. Both Toronto marathons and The NYC Marathon are a definite YES!
A song about running a marathon sorta, for love i suppose. Check it. It so groovy. It will help run this marathon! YE! Lenny Williams - You Got Me Runnin

New Shoes...
posted 4 months agoThis weekends endeavor is new running shoes… what should I get? Gotta go and see what works best for me yallz! Hopefully this will eliminate some of the soreness in my ankle and calf.
did a bunch of burpees for strength and ran tabata’s up steep hills. i oddly enjoi running tabata’s there quite calming even though you are exerting max. effort. also i feel burpees should be called hiccups instead, that hiccup seems more descriptive to the movement, what are your thoughts?
A True Long Run... Dependingly

Today was my long run and instead of the usual ~10-15k long run I did half marathon and a bit more (~+22km) trying to keep pace with my end goal for making my 3;10 goal. I was a little slower than I was hoping however I was able to keep a steady pace throuought the whole distance. There was a bit of struggle between 5-7km where I was feeling faigue but once I got threw the 1-2km after than my legs were in a killer grove and just kept going until the last 3km where I was really noticing fatique kicking in and my form slowly deteriorating. Made it through and am a bit stiff but feeling great, sorta. Left ankle and foot is sore and slightly swollen but I guess for running the farthest I’ve ever run before I am in great shape afterwords. Did some yoga as well after.
Any tips on eazing / limiting the swelling and tenderness while walking? I took a cold bath, the first bath since my childhood probably! ha. Eazed some stiffnes for sure.
I am almost finished the book Born To Run by Christopher McDougall which is AMAZING and one of the key ideas about running is enjoying it. I will have to say when I find myself getting a bit sluggish its amazing what a ear to ear smile will do while running and thinking about how privlidged we are to be able to run, and how the weather is great and the trees around us are having their leaves change to vibrent yellows, reds and oranges. Life is great while running.
Also I’ve also realized how great it is when a killer song comes onto your iPod. The Virgins, The Twelves, Midnight Juggernots, The Lovely Feathers, Bouncing Souls, Propagandhi, Boy Crisis, Klaxons, Kissy Sellout, Miike Snow, Mystery Jets, The Presets, The Libertines and I can totally keep on listing but I will spare you the boring lists. I am thinking I will put togeher my ultimate running mixtape and post it for all to love. Look out for this!
After the run I ate a great meal of baked mixed vegetables (egg plant, zucchini, peppers, onions etc) and a wonderful salad! YUM!
